　　许多动物就这样消失了，狐狸逐渐明白了狮子的阴谋。于是他站在洞外很远的地方询问狮子的病情。狮子回答他：“我的病情还好，不是非常严重，但是你为什么站在外面呢，请进来和我说会话吧！”狐狸立即明白了他的用意，回答道：“不，谢谢您的好意了，我是不会进去的，因为我注意到这里只有动物们进去的脚印，而没有返回的脚印！”

　　狮子误闯入农夫的宅院。农夫想要把他抓住，就关上了大门。当狮子意识到自己无法逃脱时，就先把绵羊吃掉，然后又扑向了公牛。农夫一看大事不妙，惟恐狮子进攻自己，就赶快把门打开，放走了狮子。狮子离开后，农夫看着死去的绵羊和公牛痛心不已。他的妻子对他说：“要我说啊，你真是自作自受。你何必把自己和一个从很远的地方看到都会吓得瑟瑟发抖的野兽关在一起呢?”

　　不要奢求那些自己能力范围之外的事物。

　　狐狸和狮子结成了同盟。每次打猎的时候，都是狐狸在东奔西走，寻找猎物的所在地，然后由狮子亲自出马去捕捉。他们每次都是按照功劳的大小来分配猎物，狮子的那份总比狐狸的多很多。一段时间之后，狐狸开始嫉妒狮子，不愿意再和狮子合作，就独自去森林里打猎。当他在追逐一只山羊的时候落入了陷阱，成了猎人的猎物。
